Invite someone to type

They can type, and if you have live captions they can speak, on your caption hours. Nothing else: they cannot move the words, resize them, change the effect, or invite anyone. Withdrawing disconnects them immediately, not on their next visit, and clears the conversation off the screen so the next person you invite does not arrive into it. Your transcript is kept.

Waiting to join someone

Type the code they read out to you. Codes last 15 minutes and work once. This leaves the room you are in now, which is empty until somebody joins it, so there is nothing to lose by going.

Overlay

OBS never reloads a page on its own. If the overlay stops answering the settings above, it is running an older copy of itself and this is the fix, without touching OBS.

Screen space

No tab bar, no address bar. About 110 pixels back, which is the difference between this window sitting under the camera and sitting in the way of it.

Words on screen

Everyone watching sees this. The newest line always sits at the edge you pick, so the sentence being read never moves.

The newest line from each person stays bright, so both sides of a conversation stay readable at once.

Clear by itself

Each line fades out this long after it was typed, so the screen empties itself between sentences. The transcript still keeps everything.

Your lines sit on the LEFT. Leave the name empty and nothing is shown above them.

Keep my last words private

Hold back

Your words appear on their screen as you type, except the last few. That gives you room to fix a typo, or a word the microphone heard wrong, before anyone else sees it. While you are deleting, nothing moves at all. Slide all the way up for Never, and they see nothing until you press Enter.

Send on its own

Send after I stop Wait

For speaking instead of typing. Say your sentence, stop, and it sends itself. The Send button counts down so you can see it coming, and typing or saying one more word starts the wait again.

Never wait longer than

For a signing keyboard, which keeps improving the sentence and never goes quiet. Counts from your first word and sends what is in the box when time is up, even while the words are still changing.

Text size on this screen

Sizes what you type and what they send, on this device only. It changes nothing on the overlay and nothing on their screen.

Their finished sentences are read out by this phone, so you can keep looking at them instead of down at the screen. Half-typed words are never spoken.

Your voice

How your sentences sound on the other person's phone when they have read-aloud on. If the natural voice cannot play, their phone uses its own.

Your words go up in your colour, under your name, in the same place they go when you type. You can still type while it listens. Turn it off and the microphone stops.

Or let them speak

A page for the other person, on their own phone or laptop. Their words arrive on their side, and the page shows them what it heard, so a word that came out wrong is caught by the person who said it instead of becoming a misunderstanding. They join as a guest, so it makes an invite link if there is not one already, and withdrawing that invite disconnects them as well.

Your typing box

This one is yours alone. It changes nothing on the overlay, and it is remembered on this device only.

Their words

What the other person says or types, beside your typing box, so you can read them without looking away from your own sentence. On a phone it sits above the box.

Canvas size

Match this to your canvas in OBS, then size the Browser Source to the same numbers at position 0, 0 — that is what makes it line up exactly. It also sets the shape of the preview above, so what you arrange here is what lands on the canvas.

The words take the same share of the frame at any size, so changing canvas will not resize your captions.

Transcript

Each subtitle starts when the first words of that sentence appeared and ends when Enter was pressed. Times count from the first sentence, so one offset lines the whole file up with your video.

Every line typed in this room is kept, by you and by anyone you invited, with the time it was sent. The screen only ever shows the last few. This is all of them.

It is kept on our server, not in this browser, so it is here on any device you sign in from.

Download it to keep it. A line is kept for 7 days and then removed on its own. The file you download is yours and does not expire.

If this was a session someone would not want written down, delete it when you are finished rather than waiting for the window to pass. Clearing the screen does not do that, and neither does withdrawing an invite.
